Los Autores “No. 1” Vieja Reserva Red 2011

Los Autores is series of limited run, special bottlings created by master winemakers. Edition No.1 was made by the late Ezequiel García, “El Brujo de Rioja” (The Wizard of Rioja), who again showed his legandary magic touch with this special project. This “Vieja Reserva” (Old Reserve) style wine was made from a special selection of grapes, including a small percentage of the white grape Viura, and was aged 36 months in old American oak barrels to create a very traditional wine of great elegance, finesse and ageablility.

Tasting Note:
Los Autores No. 1, El Brujo Ezequiel García Rioja Vieja Reserva 2011 offers a highly aromatic nose of mixed berries, melon, wild herbs, white pepper and smoke. On the palate it is smooth and bright with core flavors of bramble berry along with notes of rose petal and soft, creamy vanilla tones. Medium to full-bodied, it has a cleanly woven spine of acidity, which carries into a long, finely textured finish. A beautiful expression of traditionl Rioja elegance.

Ezequiel García was born in 1930 in Anguciana, a small town in La Rioja. As a child he was surrounded by the wine centered world of his father, their vineyards and family winery. In 2014 he published a small book of his illustrated recollections of his life in wine, “La Rioja en mi memoria”, which beautifully depict those lost days of Rioja winemaking in the middle of the 20th century.
