Winery owner Carlos Diaz holds the 36th Wine Fair of Amandi Best Winery Trophy alongside a bottle of Camiño Novo.

The 36th Edition of the Wine Fair of Amandi, 2016, has just given Carlos Diaz’s small family winery the Best Winery award of the fair. The fair is a wine and cultural event celebrating the local wineries in the highly prestigious Amandi sub-zone of the Ribeira Sacra Appellation.

Winning the award is truly an honor considering it pits all the best wineries in the historic zone against each other for bragging rights. Although there are no large wineries (by today’s commercial standards) in the difficult to cultivate terraces of Amandi along the banks of the Sil River, it is wonderful recognition of the great work this tiny family winery does year in and year out.

Most notably, it is the Diaz family’s efforts in the vineyards that makes them stand out. Each of their small plots has its own requirements to produce its best, and the family tends them dutifully and with great pride. While the results of their hard work is best found in the bottle, their new trophy will be a great addition to their trophy case and wider recognition in Ribeira Sacra and in Spain.
